ジョージ・オーウェル

ジョージ・オーウェル（George Orwell, 1903年6月25日 インド - 1950年1月21日 ロンドン）は、イギリスの作家。本名はエリック・アーサー・ブレア（Eric Arthur Blair）。1940年代に書き上げた『動物農場』と『1984年』が代表作である。『1984年』は全体主義的ディストピアの世界を極めて説得力のある形に書き上げたため、そういった社会を「オーウェリアン」（Orwellian）と呼ぶ。

• 人間のみが我々の真の敵だ。人間を退場させろ、飢えと過剰な労働の根を永遠に絶やすのだ。人間は生き物のなかで生産なしに消費する唯一の生き物だ。ミルクも出さないし、卵も産まない、犂を引くには弱すぎ、兎を取るにはのろすぎる。しかし人間はすべての動物の主人なのだ。動物たちを働かせ、そのかわりに飢え死にさせない程度に最小限のものをやる。そして残りは自分のために取っておくのだ。
